Slovak National Theatre:13 premières scheduled for the centenary season of 2019/2020
SND Drama Company
has scheduled eight première titles for the coming season in the Drama Hall and the Studio. The leitmotif is reflection of the art and theatre in our society. In the Drama Hall, we shall feature No Show Tonight
, an original production by Jiří Havelka about an artist´s mission today. Another title to feature here isan adaptation of the Theatre Novel
by Mikhail Bulgakov, staged by the directorial duo SKUTR. The programming further includes the Slovak classic by Jozef Hollý Kubo
, as directed by Lukáš Brutovský. Last but not least, we are delighted to draw your attention to Scenes from Life (Ingmar Bergman)
, (kindly note that this is yet a working title, the title in Slovak is Scény zo života;). The production directed by Roman Polák touches upon the very heart of artistic endeavour.
The Studio will present a number of titles, including the contemporary British comedy The Play That Goes Wrongby
Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sawyer and henry Shields (directed by Michal Vajdička) set in the context of theatre; two classical gems of Czech and Slovak realistic drama Sin / Her Stepdaughterby
Jozef Gregor Tajovskýand Gabriela Preissová, respectively, staged by Matúš Bachynec; the small-scale story of the controversial Italian poet Torquato Tasso
by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (directed by Jan Antonín Pitínský); as well as the Hamlet Machine
by Heiner Müller (directed by Sláva Daubnerová).
We have a number of additional titles in store and shall present them in the Blue Salon. To name but one, the production of the play by Alexandra Salmela Strange Things (kindly note that this is yet a working title, the title in Slovak is Cudzô), as staged by Júlia Rázusová is intended for young audiences It is an exclusive international project within the European Theatre Convention.Within the framework of adventurous dramaturgy, we shall carry on working with independent companies, and will also present staged reading of the winning text from the competition Drama Witches.We shall also bring you a range of public discussions and popularisation events dedicated to the centenary of the SND.

, one of the chef d´oeuvres by Guseppe Verdi. Somewhat exotic opus that represents the monumental operatic grandeur in the most original sense. The end of the season will be dedicated to an earlier, yet no less significant oeuvre – The Marriage of Figaro
by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart that portrays the light-hearted, yet also witty world of the Enlightenment Rococo.

, ballet gem by Marius Petipa, as staged by Vasili Medvedev. The season will culminate with the première of Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella
as choreographed by Michael Corder,one of Europe’s most acclaimed artists and choreographer of the Royal Ballet in London. We shall celebrate the centenary together with our counterparts – the SND Opera and Drama Company – with Gala Evening
. The event will feature the leading performing artists of the three ensembles, along with international guest stars. Withinthe Choreography Studio we are bringing an author’ s night featuring two young choreographers with their new take on Ravel’s chef d’ oeuvres – Daphnis and Chloeand Bolero
